Starting next year, new GM vehicles will be equipped with conversational AI powered by Google Gemini. This new system will enable you to interact with your vehicle and access its various features just as easily as you would with another person. This is part of the company's plans to create its own AI that can be custom-built for individual vehicles.
The conversational AI can be fine-tuned with a vehicle's intelligence and the owner's personal preferences, and connect to the OnStar services platform. In addition to accessing various features simply by speaking to your vehicle, this new system could identify potential maintenance issues, help you find restaurants and other businesses during road trips, and otherwise make any drive easier, safer, and more pleasant.
The new AI system was showcased at GM's recent "GM Forward" event, which also unveiled plans for eyes-off hands-free driving and a new centralized computing platform. GM plans to incorporate both of these advancements into new vehicles by 2028, although its conversational AI system will be available sooner.
